This past week at Canterbury Creek Farm Preschool was all about safety! We dedicated our time to teaching the children important safety lessons through engaging and interactive experiences with special guests from our community.
Fire Safety Day
We were thrilled to have local firefighters from Ada Fire Department, bringing along their impressive big red fire truck! The students were not only excited to see the truck up close, but they also had the opportunity to climb in and on the vehicle. This hands-on experience provided them with a unique perspective on the tools and equipment firefighters use daily.
During their visit, the firefighters shared valuable fire safety tips with the children. They emphasized the importance of having a fire escape plan and knowing how to call for help in an emergency. This engaging presentation helped demystify the role of firefighters and reinforced the vital job they do in keeping our community safe.
Police Officer Visit
In addition to our fire department guests, we also welcomed a officer Kate from the Kent County Sheriff Department to our farm school. The officer spoke to the students about personal safety and shared essential tips for staying safe at home, school, and in the community. The children were thrilled to see the police car and were fascinated by the sirens and flashing lights.
Through these visits, the officer helped the children understand the importance of police officers in our community and how they work to keep us safe. The officer’s approachable demeanor encouraged the students to ask questions, making the learning experience both fun and informative.
Fostering a Safe Environment
Safety Week is not only an essential learning opportunity for our students, but it also helps them understand that the individuals who protect our community, like firefighters and police officers, are friends they can trust. By fostering a sense of safety and familiarity, we aim to remove any fear or apprehension the children may have about these important figures in their lives.
